Have you always dreamed of becoming a writer?

Not really... I remember being a very curious child.  This insatiable curiosity is something that I have never outgrown and it helps me see beyond the ordinary.  I can clearly remember that I wasn't the brightest kid around that gets an 'A' and writing was definitely something I shy away from - until it caught me completely off guard.  Who would have guessed that winning a slogan entry for this contest by Maybelline cosmetics will open doors for me as a writer?  Was it because it was published in a glam mag called Cosmopolitan -Philippines edition?  I can only guess.. so I took the calling and the journey as a writer goes on.

How would you compare yourself with other writers out there?

I hate comparison, but competition is a normal part of life and it should keep you motivated to wear your best hat.  I believe that anyone can write a word, a phrase, a sentence and turn them into paragraphs - BUT, not everyone can write with a compelling style that's clear, concise, and persuasive.  This is my specialty, where stirring a reader's thoughts and emotions has always been like the air I breathe; it comes to me naturally.

Describe Your Writing Style

I would lie if I say that I'm not influenced by my favorite authors, online or offline, in the works that I do right now.  They inspire me to go on with this dream of becoming a name of my own someday.  Still, writing is an evolving process and I'm doing my best to update my skills to meet the demands of my writing projects.  I believe that to be a good writer, one must appreciate reading classic works that have shaped the world literature to what we read today. Being a bookworm and a sucker for the latest online news help me write in a unique style I call - my own.

Did you have a formal training in writing?

I have graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, and we did have writing as part of the overall curriculum.  As I said, I never knew I had a knack for writing until later in my adult life, when I was forced to face the truth - that I was born to write.  With Google as 'god' these days, answering any questions on Earth, there's nothing you can't know.  My writing experiences and projects, coupled with research and a keen eye, have shaped me to the writer I am today.  My gut instincts have served me right to these days.

How do you work on a project?

Getting to know a new project is like going out on a blind date - you'll never know who you're going to meet.  My obsessive compulsion for details have helped me gauge the client's needs, budget, and requirements..helping me set realistic expectations.  Trust, respect and communication are vital for me which helped me turn short term projects into long term ones, where my clients are more than happy to keep my services.  Since each client has a different need, I do away with a 'one-size-fits-all' solution and see to it that my writing fits perfectly in the jigsaw puzzle of their branding and marketing campaigns.

What can clients expect from you if they hire your services?

I love to keep it short and simple so here it is:

  1. I believe in the golden rule of karma, as in 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'.
  2. If I cannot deliver results, I won't make empty promises in the first place ( this is why I ask a lot of questions about project details as well ).
  3. Respect is major for me and this means no shady practices that infringe the rights of others ( Yes, plagiarism is a crime ).
  4. Your project's success is the biggest turn on for me to drive myself into hours of commitment to produce consistent, quality works.
  5. I write for humans and not for search engines... so if you're looking for black hat SEO writers, you may drop me off your list.
  6. I don't have the secret formula of making your site No.1 on Google like other 'gurus' would promise.  Even Matt Cutts says no one can guarantee it.  Please don't ask me this question.
  7. Wikileaks may have gone too far with the transparency thing, but I love to share every what, when, where, how and why of the project with my clients.  No hidden gimmicks.
  8. Deadlines are sacred to me.  It's either I make it or I'm 'dead'.
  9. I can go the extra mile, even a thousand miles.. so long as it's still within the scope my clients and I have agreed upon in the first place.  I love fine print, so keep it coming.
  10. I love constant updates and my clients can have a peace of mind that I won't go M.I.A. anytime soon.  You will always hear or read from me.

What can you advice to those who want to freelance full-time?

One word:  PASSION.  Freelancing has its ups and downs.  I, too, have a share of the beauty and ugliness of doing freelance work.  I believe it is a combination of readiness, desire, and guts that has given me a success in my freelance career.  For those who are new to this field, getting a decent-paying job may be a challenge, but don't settle for anything less than what you truly deserve.  Good Luck!

Other than writing, do you have any other passion?

Yes, a lot!  I'm passionate for life itself ( laughs ).  Seriously, I'm also into surreal art, illustrations, digital art, bath soap sculpture and you may find me jumping on a trampoline just to find a fix for this writer's block my kind experiences, now and then.  I'm still discovering new and exciting things!
